I first discovered Mr. Dias work on The Secret Of NIMH. Which by the way he states was his favorite project. :D

His style is very much recognizable in The Chipmunk Adventure and Roger Rabbits Toon Town.

I think Mr. Dias is an extraordinary character artist, background painter and color stylists. If you are looking for some fresh inspiration, study his work. Especially how he uses color. It is alluring and vibrant to say the least.
