Once upon a time, I really wanted to be an animator. I ended up becoming an elementary school teacher instead.

I still practice drawing, but now as more of a hobby. I have to admit, I do feel overwhelmed a bit being a teacher in a forum full of artists but I hope you don't mind if I post a few things anyway.

First! The challenge: Mix one part elephant, one part dragon. Apply a liberal sprinkling of cutesy to the design. Bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes. Serve with roasted peanuts.

The result:

Next up: I have a raggedy 15 year old cat who is pretty much the apple of my eye. He slobbers and sneezes and is bony and missing teeth, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Here is my cartooney version of him.

Lastly, my take on the famed one-eyed one-horned flying purple people eater. However, this particular example is a vegetarian, and therefore insists that she only eats people from Boca (Raton) :)

Your art is positively adorable! I love that flying purple people eater so much. Her hands are really cute.

So you are a school teacher what a wonderful and rewarding profession! But I have to agree, Being able to animate your characters is also a blast! I'm a Carpenter by trade myself and a wanna be artist haha. From the look of your work you can take it straight into animation.

Thank you all so very much for the replies! I'm really sorry for the belatedness of my own reply, but it's unfortunately been a rough few weeks. We ended up having to say goodbye to the subject of my middle picture up there, my cat, Red Dog. But, onto happier things!

I'm afraid I don't have much recent work to post. Most of it has either been for a comic project, or boring "Hello I am a character just standing there" sketches as a break from the comic work. And I do try to put more character and emotion into my stuff than that.

That said, here are a couple oldies that I still kinda like.

This is a pencil drawing I did a couple years ago;I titled it "Life is Awesome". The two animals featured are what you could call my flagship characters. I do some comic work with them and usually they're not as serene as they are here. :)

This one's even older, and the characters are a bit "off-model" as opposed to how I draw them now (the balance of the dad could be a lot better, too). It's the first day of kindergarten, and little Greer is having a bad case of butterflies. Her father (what, you can't see the resemblance? :) ) is trying to convince her that she's going to be fine. I see this so much at work and just had to illustrate it. I'm planning to redo this one eventually, and add the background that it needs.

That pencil drawing is beautiful! I love their faces and the fluffy tail texture. It's just lovely.

The second one really captures the emotion of the moment. I mean your first step into kindie is a big one and I remember having to look after a few on their first day and it is a whole new thing for many.
