Hey everyone! Just thought I'd post a few of my drawings on here. I've only been drawing for two years and I haven't had any lessons. Drawing used to be just a way to get away from the stresses of life and everything for me, but now I've really grown to love it and I want to make it a bigger part of my life. I'd love to hear your comments and suggestions! I know it'll help a lot to have artists like all of you taking a look at my stuff. Thanks in advance!!

I drew this one about a year ago. It's Maid Marian and Robin Hood, only my take on them.

This one I sketched in November after Tangled came out. I was really excited about seeing it.

I sketched and painted this one in January. It was my first digital painting.

Can you tell I really loved Tangled?? So yeah! That's pretty much it. For now anyways. I have a few original characters that I've been drawing but I'll post them later. Any advice you have I will gladly accept!!

My favorite drawing is the one of Rapunzel with her arms behind her back and her feet are sort of turned in. My only comment on this would be, watch out for symmetry. Nice drawing, and you have some natural talent if you've had no formal training.

I loved tangled too! Great drawings. I still wish tangled was done traditionally in 2d..

Thanks so much! I hadn't noticed the symmetry and now I can see it in some of my other drawings. Thanks for the tip and the compliment! :o

Thanks! Yeah I wish Tangled had been in 2d as well... But it was still pretty good in 3d. I'm just glad they made it! :D

Your welcome. I agree with Lav too, I think Tangled should have been done in 2D. I think the artists could have given us better performances with the pencil.

Check out Jin Kim's blog (http://cosmoanimato.blogspot.com/) who is a character designer at Disney and designed characters for Tangled.

Looking good!

For someone who has only been at this for two years you've picked a great time to learn from Don Bluth.

As Ma'am Ode would say (in 'Princess and the Frog'), "This gonna be good!" :)

Keep up the great work.
I'd love to see more of your Robin Hood and Maid Marion.
Let me rephrase that... I expect to see more! :)

Your stuff looks very good for the short time you've been drawing. Keep up the good work!

Owen Wow! All the sketches on there are amazing! Thanks for the link. Yeah, 2d would've been a much better performance.
Rodney Thank you so much! It's been a long process getting to this point and I can't do much more on my own. I've already learned so much from just Don's tips and I can't wait to learn more!
Ben Thank you! I most definitely will!
Here's a couple more sketches. I plan on finishing the first one with Flynn in the boat and maybe painting it, but for now... The second one I drew before Tangled came out so it's got a few discrepancies (like her hair) :D

Next time I post I'll put up my characters!

Wonderful sketches! Your linework is smooth and it's got a good flow to it. The two you just posted are wonderful, too! Very expressive faces, especially the second one! I'm definitely looking forward to seeing some of your original characters! :D

Great work, BookLover! I love the "Tangled" art, but I keep going back to Maid Marian and Robin Hood. Definitely an interesting take on those characters. Marian looks so strong, like she'd have no trouble taking care of herself! If that's what you could do a year ago, I hope you'll do an updated version, and of course I'd like to see your original characters. :)

Sorry I haven't been on for a couple of weeks. I've been traveling for a bit so I haven't had much time to work on my drawings. But I did a couple last night for some friends and I wanted to post them! :D
On this one I tried to get away from the symmetry that keeps showing up in my drawings. Not sure if it worked too well....

This one I had a lot of fun with cause I've never drawn an elephant before! It was pretty quick and I didn't use many references so it's probably not as good as it should be. But I had fun!

Here's another I drew for a friend. I used screen caps from Rescuer's Down Under on the eagle. I really enjoyed doing this one! http://img862.imageshack.us/img862/9573/002eb.jpg

I'm not going to be able to post anything else very soon. My family and I moved back across the country so things are a little hectic right now. Plus I auditioned for the role of Glinda in our community's yearly musical, they're doing the Wizard of Oz, (in our new area :D) and I got asked for a callback so I'm super excited and stressed. The callbacks are tomorrow.
Anyways, really unnecessary information there.... But I will keep drawing and should be back in a couple of weeks with some more.

Wow, very nice. Profiles are very hard to pull off, but you did this one with flying colors. Is the girl riding the Eagle one of your own creations/characters? Hope you get the call back! :)

Wonderful work, DeAnna! Your line work is so smooth and relaxed! I really like that profile shot with the eagle especially! :) Oh, and good luck on your callback! Here's to hoping you get the part! :D

Seth: Thank you so much!!! She actually isn't one of my own characters, but I'm collaborating with a friend on her story.
akkushisu Thank you!
So it took me a little longer than I thought, but I'm back! I finished a painting of my character Marian and I wanted to post it here. Sad news though, I did not get the part of Glinda. But I'm happy with who did because she's had more acting and singing experience than I have. Plus now I have the entire summer to work on my art! :D
Here's the one of Marian:
http://img163.imageshack.us/img163/1783/mariang.png
I felt like I should give it more of a painting feel, but I think I should have left better outlines around her face. hmmmm...
Here's one I did as a request from a friend of their own original character.

Still getting the hang of proportions...
Any tips?

So I finished another drawing. This time I was trying to do what Don told me, to get the weight shifted correctly according to the pose. I think I did pretty well, but I'm definitely open for critiquing!

You were right to try what Don told you! Your new pose is much more dynamic and interesting. Great job!

I'm doing some illustrations as a job for a children's series that will hopefully be published soon. These are two, not sure which ones will make it into the book but we'll see. He's a goblin that makes practical shoes for his village but wants to start making fancy shoes. I'll be doing more of this character later on cause there are five books. I'm really excited about getting do this! Not only will it help me improve my drawing skills, but I think I might take the time to animate him doing something. Once I get drawing his character down. :D
