I'm not all too confident with anything I animate just yet, but these are a few things I've had to do for school. I hope I'm doing this whole YouTube button thing right. Technology...not my strong-suit...

My German Shepherd trot cycle. The legs look fine (for the most part), but unfortunately that was the only part I focused on. The tail and head don't move at all...

And we had to do an exercise in mild takes and holds. I just like it for the expression. ^^; It was cute.
My biggest problem with animation is working with secondary motion. When I was given the assignment on a 4 legged character's movement, the only thing I focused on was the actual leg movement. So I need to work on making everything flow better.

I like how the spider kind of slides down the nose a little bit in the 2nd clip.

Majin (Animated Hold and Mild Take Exercise) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zTwu0JVaz6E)
LOL! Yes, cute!
I would like to have seen you make the "take" (primarily the nose) go a little past the final pose then settle back to where you have it with just one or two drawing in between. The ears could have settled to their final position two or three drawings past that.
Your drawing skills are really nice :D And I have problems with my secondary motion as well.

Could you describe what "takes and holds" is?

looking good so far, my advise is that you aim to animate much less complex characters. This will take your attention away from how the character looks and focuses you more on how they move. If you give yourself something far too detailed it makes it harder to concentrate on how its moving. Keep up the good work though c:

Wow, the drawings on these are really nice! The only thing I'm wondering is, did you clean the drawings up that much as you animated them, or did you do that separately afterward? I notice on the 'take' that you are using understructure for your drawings, which is really good!
On the first one, it's not only that the tail and head don't move- what jumps out at me the most is that the body doesn't move at all. It looks almost like the dog is in a wire harness, and has been lowered just to the point where its legs touch a treadmill. There should be a gentle bouncing of each end of the trunk as the character walks - since the body is propped up by the legs, and they are continuously changing how they are holding the body up.
Take a look at a real dog trotting on a treadmill:

As for the take, it seems like it's missing its anticipation - except on the ears and the eyes. The head simply moves from the beginning position to the end position, without anticipating down first. A tiny one-or-two frame duck would do it. Likewise, it doesn't overshoot the end of the motion at all - it just stops. Adding a tiny overshoot to the motion before it settles on the last frame would make it that much stronger, and give a real 'snap' to the action, without necessarily increasing the intensity of the take.
Also, just on a side note, you could have a lot of fun by putting that strand of spider silk on a separate layer, and having it billow around a bit in response to the spider end of it being pushed up suddenly. :D
Wow Snapai that is a great video! I'm gonna study it myself :D

Unfortunately...I don't even know how to describe it. This is just what my teacher said the assignment was.

I go back afterwards on put the detail on them. And sometimes I don't get the time to go back and add in the detail. I have a couple that are only partially cleaned up that I don't have uploaded anywhere. I actually can't draw anything without the understructure. ^^;
And thanks for that video! My teacher didn't exactly "teach" us how to properly do these things. He kinda expected us to know it already. So I was pretty much on my own with this especially. I'm definitely gonna study that video and others I can find.

Heh! That would be fun. X3

Yeah...it's my terrible habit. Works well for illustrations, and very badly for animation (well at least now it does since I'm still pretty much a beginner). I need to start focusing more on the movement.
