Hello Folks,
For those of you who do not know me, my name is Avionne Akanbi, and I am an animation/multimedia artist who is trying to save my childhood home, my mother’s home from foreclosure.

How You Can Help?

I have been fighting to get my mother’s house back for years, and am only one step away from achieving my goal, and I need your help to do this! I have made arrangements with an investor who will agree to pay the remaining debt if I can prove that I can drive visitors to his site. The goal is simple: I need you, your friends, and your friend’s friends to help me achieve a total of 1,000,000 downloads of my art before May 26th, 2011.

Simply click on the links you find below and encourage your friends to do the same. The links are merely of art and animation I have created. There will be downloads of entertaining and motivational digital art and animation, all of which will need to be views to meet the goal of saving the house. Thanks All... Here are a few links to get started. Donations are also being accepted via Pay Pal. A dollar will do, but if you can give more, please do. Thank you All !!!

This animated short is in the film festival circuit, which includes an animated version of my mother on the phone doing what she did best....speaking out!

About My Mother

My mother was and is a wonderful being. She is my queen. She was an activist and a teacher with so much to offer this world, and raised the five of her children, including me, with immense love and dedication. She was the type of woman who would show up at my elementary school and ensure African and multicultural history was placed in our history books. Instead of hiding injustice or the harsh reality of life from us, she made us aware of it, and impressed upon us the importance of facing it head on.
She passed away ONLY PHYSICALLY from cancer in 1997, but she LIVES SPIRITUALLY with me FOREVER...

Our Plans For The House

Since My mom was a teacher both in and outside our home, we plan to make the house a learning center for kids and adults. We also plan to bring over Canadian students who would like to establish themselves in the United States and build upon their filmmaking skills. The demographics for such a program will be children of preschool age 2-5 year olds and ages 6-10 years old. The adults for such a program will be Junior high school students ages 18 - 25 and college students 25 and up.

Our research has told us due to the lack of skills that are implemented in this area of Buffalo, New York, by either young or premature parents, broken homes, or lack of educational institutions that attract this particular demographic, this program will not only stimulate youngsters to begin building their multimedia skills at an early age, it's goal is to drive the student who generally plays video games, to create their own as well as implement some business skill building. It's important for the adult to realize that skills are what need to be learned as early as possible to survive this competitve world we live in. For the african american child, it is even more imperative.

I am excited and looking forward to making this happen...simply by viewing my artwork. For any questions you may have, I have included my website and email below. Lets Do This!!

I hate to say this but this looks suspicious based on the recent internet scams I've seen. I would love to help you out but I'd need verification from someone I trust.

Hi Meredith,
No problem, this is to be expected. This is the reason I have included my website. I have worked with the ReelWorld Film Festival in Toronto Ontario and Ms Tonya Lee Williams, from the Young and the Restless.

I attended Howard University in Washington DC in 1999. I am a new animator that has been apart of this forum for about 6 months now. I also have published various articles and artwork online, if you plug in my name. Not sure how much else I can say about myself from here. There is no costs involved in viewing my links, I have to just prove that I can get the traffic. I am working on raising the rest of the money on my own, this is just one part of our campaign. Please do let me know if you need any more information on myself or references. I am so far from a scam artist. I'm just an artist.

Thank you
Avionne Akanbi

Hi Avionne, I think your idea is fantastic but and I'm not sure if you're looking for feedback but I have a couple suggestions that might help if you're interested. Like Phrogger suggested, I would've dismissed not only this post but also a previous art post of yours because it resembled spam and artwork linked to associated content articles. Our modern cynical age is sad but I think we are all are little protective because of the amount of scams out there today.

Here's my suggestions, first look at applying to become a (501)(c)(3) Nonprofit or establishing a fund. To become a Nonprofit you'll need to establish a board of directors and do the paperwork to make it official. It can take some time, cost money if you get a lawyer to do it for you but becoming an established Nonprofit will add legitimacy to your project and you will be able to issue charitable tax receipts. As I understand it, (501)(c)(3) Nonprofit is different in the United States vs Canada where only charities can issue tax receipts. If you need some start up costs, try using kickstarter.com (http://www.kickstarter.com), indiegogo.com or ulule.com and offer some perks for those who donate. A simplified version of that process would be to establish a fund with a reputable source which provides clear accountability of how much money is made and where it is going. Your local United Way might be able to help you out more.

The other suggestion is if you want to do web work, you have to create an engaging site. Right now you're going from a low traffic weebly website and trying to establish yourself with a million(unique?) visits in only a few weeks. That's a fairly amazing accomplishment and even if you achieve it, if you want to cultivate an audience, you have to deliver an experience or content which is compelling. You might want to talk to some of the web designers here, like Lavalle Lee, who know more about this and have established successful websites in the past.

Again I think you have a wonderful concept and I'd like to know more. Who is this investor that will pay the remaining debt and what sort of deal do you have planned, why does he need to see you receive a million visitors by May 26, who is on your team, how will you implement your ideas once you've received funding, do you have a 3 or 5 year business plan, is there transparency or accountability with your project and do you have a means of reporting that information to your supporters.

Best wishes and good luck with your idea!

Hi Jeremy!
First of all I want to apologize for my unbelievable late replies. I have been swamped with this everything and found other ways to take care of my moms property. I really appreciate your suggestions and I am working right now on making a sound decision on it. I was given more time to do that. So that project is completed. Right now I am working strongly on assisting other artists here in this forum and working on my craft.

Thanks
