I have a question regarding the development of the Pigmy Owl character.

I'm wondering if there is any guidance in art direction for the film overall that we should concern ourselves with.

Can we see some sketches of the "Ok'd" Fox and the Rabbit so that we might have a frame of reference for the world this little story will take place in so we might gear our owl to fit in it?

Or is that maybe too limiting, or not truly what is desired.

We are still working on the layouts for the project. Some of the characters and one of the layouts are visible in the image in this page. (http://www.donbluthanimation.com/_Don_Bluth_Animation_Cyber_Garage_Project.html)
We'll give you more information over the next week or so...

Sounds fun. I assume you'll want a turnaround for our final product if your going to animate it, yes?

Will this have something to do what I think was a fox chasing a rabbit in Thumbelina? At least that's what the fox sort of looks like on the Cyber Garage page, and you mention a chase now.

yeah, the fox and rabbit look like the same two from Thumbelina, which I oddly remember well

When is the deadline, by the way?
Sorry if I missed it somehwere... But if it's been stated, I can't seem to find it.

Prelude

As a lead up to the Cyber Competition, we are going to have another drawing competition where you get to design a single character for the Garage Project. The winning entry will have his/her drawing included in the three minute animation short. This drawing competition is open to all registered Forum users including moderators. The competition will begin May 1st and end at midnight Arizona time on May 15th, 2009. We will give you more details about this character over the next few days...

so May 15th, plenty of time

My Grandpa has the same looking buzz cut as the Pygmy owl :) and I instantly noticed the similaritys between him and the owls face and hairdoo, so I am going to work real hard on cramming his character into this little owl :D

No, we'll take care of the turnaround after the winner is picked.

How many pictures of the same owl can be on one page, or is it just one picture?

Like the Last Rhino competition, just one picture or drawing.

My question is ............can I enter the owl comp?

But as for doing a lot of work on the project will be limited due to time constraints and other projects. If this is a problem please feel free to disqualify my submission.

John,

I'm on the same boat as you.. I am very much interested in taking part but I am torn with the amount of workloads I maybe facing this Summer. I'm getting ready for a job hunt soon due to graduation and what not. I am still trying to decide how accommodate my projects aside for this... : (

If it's alright for me to just take part in the Owl character design I would definitely enter it for sure. I enjoy watching everyone's works and learning from everyone here. : )

I totally understand time and scheduling. I was feeling guilty I could not give my all or help with the project but if I didn't submit a sketch then I would never have known any outcome.......

The only thing I can say is...........

Hammy go for it!! I'm up working right now on a kids book ( it's almost midnight here )and I have a deadline of five more BW illus by memorial day and I have to be at work at 7 am, building and repairing homes (I'm a carpenter by day) hahaha no rest for the artistically inclined ..........I submitted mine!

I have a 6 page paper to edit, 2 tests and 3 homeworks, as well as another prospectus for my 10 page paper to write.

I got the entries done in an hour

Everyone's busy but when it comes to the line you just have to draw like cartune said.

Hey Guys,

Question about the Pygmy Owl. Is it suppose to be male or female? In the storyboards it starts out describing the owl as "he" but then later describes the owl as "she." Don's description indicates that its a male owl. This could greatly affect people's concepts I think because a lot of these characters are wearing clothes. Hats, bonnets and what not. If the owl is to also wear some sort of attire it might matter.

Sorry about that. The Pygmy owl is a male. We've updated the storyboards to illustrate a male owl.

Thanks Cartuneman. I still signed up anyway because I don't want to pass up this opportunity.

I'm wrapping up my finals this Wednesday and hopefully I can get around to work on the Owl on the next few days!

Are there any requirements on what paper you use? (Lined vs. unlined)

Mithmeoi

You could just draw it on printer paper, they would probably prefer unlined. Lines tend to really take away from the drawing.

Ok! Thanks for the info (I'll keep that in mind next time. No more sketching on legal pads! xD)

Can anyone help me? How do you post your drawing? Thanks

Find a good free host like Photobucket.com, upload your drawing there, and then copy the link addy. Then make a new post, click the "insert image" button up next to the font options and link button, paste the link to your image in the pop up it creates, click ok and it'll automatically insert it into your post in the right format. :)
