(Napoleon Dynamite)

Uncle Rico: Hey, what you wanna bet I can throw a token over them mountains? If I could just go back to 1983. You know, go back to the arcade with two pockets stuffed full of tokens. People waiting in line behind me as I step up to plate, put two tokens in, and play Dragon's Lair - the greatest game ever - from beginning to end. If my mother hadn't pulled me out, I would have saved the princess. Today, I'd be in some mansion somewheres - soaking it up in the hot tub with my soul mate, Daphne.

Hey Kip, you're always on that cyberweb stuff. You ever looked up something on time travel?

Kip: Sure, all the time.

Uncle Rico (eyes toward the horizon): Right on...right on.

==========================

Well I'm Lindley. And yep, Dragon's Lair is why I pursue animation & game development today. It was a fateful moment when I saw it for the first time. I don't think words can explain it better than shock and awe.

Funny how life goes. We want to get into something like art and computers but sometimes we're pulled in other directions. Then years melt away before we're at the crossroads again. I was at that intersection a few years back and decided I would pursue my childhood dream. Now I have an AA in Computer Arts: Animation and I'm finishing my BFA at San Jose State in CA.

I joined Don's Club because this is the kind of work I want to achieve. I know 3D software like the back of my hand. I even tutor classmates better, more advanced workflows. But software is only a tool and now that I'm comfortable w/ many many tools - I'm going back to the drawing board.

It's a pleasure to be here.

Welcome!

I was inspired by Dragon's Lair too but boy was I bad at that video game.
I decided to stop wasting my quarters and buy comic books instead.
Years later when DL came out for the PC I bought it hoping to see more of the art and story in the game (remember that dark red code sheet?) but I still couldn't win at the game!

But... I was inspired by it all just the same.

I'll have to check that out. I use "The Animator's Survival Kit" quite a bit.

To Rodney: I heard friends confess they had beaten the game but I never witnessed anyone beat DL in front of me. I watched some kid beat it on Starcade, tho. I think it's on YouTube still. I have yet to beat it but DL's 20th Anniversary Box Set is due to arrive at my door mid June! I feel like a kid waiting on Xmas.

To lavallelee: DL is a super super game. Regardless of some glitchy, gameplay at times - I can't imagine anyone, in this community, that isn't impressed by the totality of what it did to the gaming and entertainment industry altogether. On the hardware side, everything has followed its lead only to be improved by HD and Blue Ray discs. But I've yet to play a game that is anywhere near as animated, magical, or truly mind blowing as DL and SA were.

I appreciate the welcomes and all future critiques. Don't worry about my "hurting" my feelings. I've failed enough times to know that I'll fail again :laughing:! Is that a double negative? Good, I just made a positive.
