Arif, your situation is unique but if you are pirating movies, please don't post about how you're getting them on the forum. Thanks.
Nimh is one of my favorites as well. I especially enjoy the animation for Mrs Brisby and Justin.

Hi Arif...
I seen some of your work in the gallery. Many of your characters are great! Just what I needed for a potential client. I especially like Rupkumar and his girlfriend. For your information, I downloaded some of your images, changed a few things (including names) and I'm in the process of closing a deal with your characters.
When I receive the check from the client, I will not be able to share any of the proceeds with you since I did all the hard work downloading the images and changing your characters. I know you will not mind after all, what's yours is mine and what's mine is mine, right? If I get some time later, I'll upload more of your work onto the torrent websites so others can steal the intellectual rights to your characters.
Perhaps you will see some of your own work on the torrent website when you're downloading another pirate copy of a movie.

a little rough Benjy, maybe even a little mean! since you know so much about torrent sites and how to upload videos on them I know you must have downloaded some`
The only time I download a torrent is when I want to watch an old animated show from the 1990s when I grew up and that will probably not ever be released commercially!:D
peace guys

Beggs,
Rough? Mean? Are you serious? Shall we all give him a pat on the back? "Way to go Arif... Must have taken you 2 years and millions of dollars to download that there movie off the Internet to show us in the town square."
To be honest, you know nothing about me... Never stole a thing in my life! The guy openly admitted on a public forum to downloading pirated copies of Bluth's movies for public viewing.
If you must know, I've had my work stolen and published in a catalog and received no compensation, not a dime. All the money was made by the sneaky Bas#@$D web administrator that got thousands from ad revenue utilizing my work for his content. The act is tantamount to stealing money or shoplifting goods... It's robbery, larceny or theft of copyright materials. What if I go into your home and steal your computer, tv, jewelery, etc... I think you would be pretty upset to say the least. What if I took your favorite photograph, favorite shirt off the clothes line, camera from your car??? You think because it's done online where nobody can see, or a large studio or corporation owns the rights that the act is a little less important. Well, until it happens to you, John, ......
Trying to make a point here... It's never ok to steal others work! So John, you should stop stealing too, even if the "old animated show from the 1990s" you want to see is never commercially released.

Again, I've spoken with Arif about this issue. He understands and won't do it anymore. We all make mistakes.. lets leave it at that. If someone is looking for a legal way to watch Secret of Nimh, I'd recommend checking out hulu (http://www.hulu.com/watch/25523/the-secret-of-nimh) or purchasing the DVD (http://www.amazon.ca/Secret-NIMH-Widescreen-Special/dp/B000OT8KCM).
Please John, on a forum with animation professionals, don't post that you're downloading anything illegally. Thanks!

hello everyone...
i think, i need to tell something about this issue as this is my thread....and lots of controversial are going on....
This thread about to Don Bluth film..and my review....from the second post jeremy quickly noticed me about this(i wrote how i get this movie) and i have corrected my speech so quickly...i have talked with jeremy about this issue....from my point of view..i am not a hacker or thief(???)...i have owned anastasia and Titan A.E with my own...and the 4 dvds(Tutorial) as well....but, when i came to know more about Mr.Don Bluth....i was searching the all movies in our local market..(Dave posted a list for me)..i didnot find anything without anastasia and Titan a.e here.....somehow, my friend got Secret of NIMH from(???)...and i watched the movie.....after all, i have seen a beautiful film by Don Bluth...and was amazed the emotional feelings Mrs..Brisby for her child....and want to hear from anybody about this....
and i do respect everybody`s thought...but, we can tell the same thing with more decent way also.....
so, friends ....forget about this...we are all here to learn something from our mentor Don Bluth...keep more focus with our drawings and animation.....Don Bluth is a treasure of animation...THE MORE WE ASK HIM, THE MORE WE LEARN.and time is flying away so quickly..

Arif

I highly recommend this dvd, the special features alone are worth it. Also to see Don's adventure out of Disney and the start of a whole line of classic 2d films. Awesomeness
Great animation to study.
To John.. the Hulu doesn't work outside of united states.....i found the same problem....
To Dave - thank you dave to let me know about this film..i will look for it in local market....

A possible solution...?
Several Bluth films are available on iTunes, which is how I obtained Secret of Nimh. I don't know if there are any regional issues with this, but it's worth mentioning...

It?s great that the Bluth films are so accessible on the internet like iTunes and hulu.com but you guys should consider getting the DVD so you can view the films on a big screen. Since we can't see these films in theaters anymore it?s the closest thing we can get to how Don originally envisioned the film to be shown. I hope that The Secret of Nimh gets a blu-ray release soon. MGM has been sitting on the new HD print for a while now... maybe someone should start a petition on this site! :-)

Yup yup yup! I really do recommend buying the 30th Anniversary Banjo DVD! It's so much better to watch it on a big screen and good quality rather than online, not to mention the bonus disc with interviews, etc is very insightful too:laughing: You can find a copy of the DVD on Amazon.
i dont know what can i say now......after watching some film`s of Don bluth.....i feel ashamed for not to know these amazing films before..........though, we are talking about lots of Disney movie..and we have many of us watched all of the movies of Disney here in Bangladesh...but, didn't know about Don even watching Anastasia.....
i had been passing some amazing moments when i was watching `An American tail~...i am astonished how Don created such an emotional film and put the curious attitude of Fieval....Don has talked a lot about the feelings of the characters.......how could he do this???what is the inspiration behind all his creation...???? don't know.......i think,a children mind is always living in his heart...that is the secret......
Thank you Don for creating such all of yours amazing films which are giving still unforgettable some moments and give a test of this amazing world...
Kindly Regards,
Arif:)

A good way to watch films legally from other countries is to set your Mac up to a different region for it's DVD player. Also ebay prices aren't that bad for VHS tapes.
My school's library has a book on Don Bluth. I checked it out and am hoping to find time to read it!

On the subject of Bluth films, I enjoy them heartily as much as anyone would. The rich colors and the way everything flows - from Banjo up to Titan A.E. - and not just the films, but the video game Dragon's Lair; Century Theaters in San Jose used to own that machine, complete with all the options and manners it had back in it's prime day, before getting the boot and being replace by a Gauntlet machine.
I really do wish that the movies may wind up being re-released. I don't know if it's been mentioned in the topic already, as I've not read the whole thing through, but I think... well, as a fan, seeing An American Tail on DVD with just the trailer, a sing-along, and 'Counting with Digit' is a bit disheartening. =/ This was a matter of discussion in my friend Surenity's fan page for awhile. The kinds of information to be told about the film would make for quite an amazing get together to know and learn more about.

25th anniversary edition of An American Tail in 2011 anybody? ^^
I could only hope for one, but I guess in the end it's up to Universal, and they seem to have lost much interest in the AAT franchise, whilst taking Land Before Time and running with it. I hope they give us a proper DVD release for that movie like they gave Banjo the Woodpile Cat and The Secret of NIMH ("family fun" editions aside, it was still basically what fans wanted). And maybe they'll finally bring back the old cover art for it instead of having the Fievel Goes West version of Tanya on the cover for some odd reason.
AaronMocksing
11-28-2009, 01:49 AM
Seconded on that one, Sur. ^^
I've yet to see either of those at my Wal-Mart, though I've seen the generic NIMH releases there. I think at best it came with just another trailer, some tidbits about the film, and that was about. Generic release mind you, not the 'family fun' one - unless that's the same thing. =/
And yeah you're right. XD Why is FGW Tanya in the AAT1 cover? XD Goof? Typo? Carelessness? XD

To go back to Arif's original post - i want to second that Anastasia is incredible. As a kid/teen I avoided it as at the time I felt a little too old for "Disney Princess" style movies. When I told a friend of mine I was doing the seminars with Don, she got very excited and said that Anastasia was her favourite animated movie & that I should really watch it. I bought a dvd and didn't regret it, it is absolutely beautiful.
Arif its nice that you are now discoverring all these old classics - Don has worked on some amazing films! :)
You may be interested to know that there is a (far lower budget, straight to video/dvd) sequel to anastasia called "Bartok the Magnificent". This is interesting because Don directed it, whereas he had nothing to do with previous straight to video sequels to Land Before Time, American Tail & All Dogs Go to Heaven, most of which sucked, especially compared to the amazing originals.

Ahh, I'm not a moderator anymore so I can only speak as a member in this case but it seems like enough work has taken place with the recobbling of Theif that it should fall under non profit fair use or some version of preserving historical documents. I have no idea for sure though.. any copyright lawyers in the audience?

My memory says the author of 'The Recobbled version' is the same guy involved in the recent DVD release. If true then the online version -is- the precurser, the work-in-progress releases, of the current DVD release.
So in that sense.. .the online version has been released... via DVD.

It is a great film indeed. I remember being very excited to see Fox attempting to get into the animation race. Especially when I heard they got Don to helm Anastasia. I ended up seeing it twice in the theater. I recommend the art of book if it is still in print.

yes.Sam,,
it is amazing to me to discover Don`s film one after one......i have seen lots of animation films but never thought who directed those or who are the creative people behind all of these amazing film.....so, when i found Don Here and then i went back to the history of animation for the first time.....and came to know all the things......
then, when i watched `Anastassia` again and when his name appears on the screen the `A film by Don Bluth`............my feeling was....wowow....i am talking with him now...wow!!!.he critiques my works.....is it not a golden opportunity to talk with a Legendary Giant through our work!!....
opps, i am little bit away from the main topic.....just wanted to say that ....watched another film...`all dogs go to heaven`....few days ago...........and i wont comment anything as i said before,,,,,,

Yes thats exactly how I feel about Don critiquing my work, & when re-watching his movies its definitely now a special moment for me when his name comes up on the screen - I want to shout "I know him!" (Until recently limited to my friends who are bit-part or extra roles in low budget live action stuff ;) )
What did you think of "All Dogs..."? Visually it is one of my favourites, & I especially love the character design & animation of Ann-Marie & Charlie. Its a less "epic" & a more intimate feel than Nimh, AAT & TLBT, & I always thought it works really well. My only minor criticism of the film is that the song sequences feel slightly tacked on & the film would work fine without them, but I still enjoy the music & animation of these sequences, & the aligator is necessary to save Charlie's life. I remember watching the film in the cinema as a kid with my parents on holiday & loving it. It stayed with me since then :)
