Thinking of what to post the past couple hours, I have come to realize I've plateaued in my art recently, or at least I fear that I have. I think this is perhaps that most of my art time has been devoted to a very set style of commissions (gah, gotta love that need for money) and I haven't been able to do much else.

That said, I do feel like some of the best stuff I've done recently are sketches, and those can be more fun, anyway.

WARNING: There is fanart mixed in the sketches. These compilations of sketches are usually made of about three pages worth of doodles. So ignore the cheesy robots and such.

Yes, some Charlies and a Brisby can be found here.

And heck, here's some of the colour work.

Alternate universe version of one of the gryphs above. Or the "Bizzaro" version as I like to call it in reference of Superman (but of course!) It's not as animated as I'd like, but I think that part got killed after so many revisions.

For those of you wondering what kind of art style I'm stuck doing commissions in, this is a pretty good match, although it was for myself. Vector drawn artwork with applied textures. It's fun, but I'm ready to take a break. D:

Hope this wasn't so massively long or huge or breaks your browser. I'll have to see how my computer handles it.

(Also: I know I have my website listed, but it is HORRIBLY out of date because if I try to edit the content the layout goes out of whack. So I'm waiting till I have time to finish the re-design. It's...gonna be a while.)

"These are prescription, y'know". Brilliant. That character actually reminds me of someone who I cant place. Maybe my secondary school french teacher....

Thanks for sharing! Keep them coming!

Congrats on the freelance work. Its always good to be paid for doing artwork. I'm sorry to hear you feel stuck but sometimes its helpful to rethink your goals. What do you want to do? What do you enjoy drawing? Which artists are your inspiration? What is making you unhappy now?
There's a lot of great blogs out now with tons of great artwork with styles that suit any taste. If you're looking for a place to start, try http://characterdesign.blogspot.com

Your sketches are coming along nicely. The dog-girl with the glasses that's saying, "these are prescription, y'know" is a solid drawing. I like how you have some posing twists and expressive drawings in general. Congrats again with the freelance work!

I see a Vinci and Arty!

I really like the way you construct your faces, the eyes and brows especially. I'm at this weird in-between point stylistically where I can't decide if I want to go for more realism or not, and if so how to do it? You seem to have a good method though, very solid. :)

Those are great sketches you've put up. It's always neat to see into the construction of the characters! More I say!

Julian, I like the loose approach to your drawings. I think you are far enough in the development of technique that you could stretch your imagination more. See if you can find characters in your own head that none of us have ever seen before. I'd like to see you enter the cyber garage project competition. Push to stretch your artistic muscles.

Just posting to prove I'm not DEAD an' all that. I have to say I haven't really felt I've done anything worth scanning. (It doesn't help that I'm terribly lazy about scanning.) This is the only thing I've been happy with:

Working on a style for my toony humans has been a NIGHTMARE. Yeah, I can do those type of portraits you do in high school art from day until dusk, but a stylization that's appealing and original? NOW THAT'S HARD.

I mostly just was trying to figure out how to do a face. The pose isn't the best (if I finish it she'd totally have to get a bit slumped over to get the irritation more obvious) but...yeah. I was actually happy with this. If not anything else, it's a start.

Mmmmyeah I need to find the inspiration to do more art again.
