Here's something to laugh about... Just got back to the office after a six hour excursion.
This morning, I went to drop off some artwork to the DVD copier. On the way, I stopped to get fuel in my truck. Filled up to the tune of $55.00; thought that was expensive! Pulled out of the gas station drove 2 miles up the road then, chuka-chuga bump-bump... Looked in the mirror and noticed my exhaust was spewing thick black smoke. At that moment, I knew exactly what I had done. I had filled up my diesel tank with gasoline. What an ass... Well, if you ever go to a Mobil gas station, you will notice that they have green handles on the pumps. Everywhere else in the free world, green colored handles are for Diesel - Everywhere except Mobil stations!
Here's the kicker... That's the second time I've made that mistake in a Mobil station. The first time it cost $270.00 to fix.
So I have AAA for emergency's and roadside assistance. Didn't know the towing distance is only 5 miles though. I already knew where I was going to take my truck to have it drained but I let the AAA truck driver talk me into going to his store. The tow would be free and he'd also give me 10% off the final bill. So, off I go. Two hours later he gives me an estimate to drop the tank and drain the gas. $480.00 F@@*$#g dollars. I almost had a stroke! I had a few choice words with that guy and left in my "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" truck! I drove the 25 miles through town at 25-30 miles per hour, getting stopped at every red light and suffocating every person on the street along the way.
I eventually made it to my friends place (master mechanic). He looked under the hood, in the tank under the truck and said he could fix it quick.
He unhooked the fuel pump, connected some contraption he designed onto the hose, then sucked that offending gasoline out of the tank. Took 15 minutes. Cost $45.00! What a guy!

What about the old fashion way of siphoning your own gas, all you need is a hose and a mouth. :)

Good to see everything worked out in the end for you.

My favorite part of your day. :D

Sorry you had to go through that Dave. Why do so many car mechanics try to rip off the unsuspecting customer? I'm always skeptical when I get quotes from these guys. They know they have us at their mercy. $480 is pretty insane just to siphon out some gas. You have a good friend there.

I'm glad things turned out in the end. Makes me think twice about AAA.
