I too, have been curious. Apparently it's a film by Steven Sears which Don Bluth is directing? Haven't found much else but I did find this http://thegift.artistsinc.org/?detectflash=false& which has some storyboards for the film up on the site and..
The film has recorded dialogue in both English and Arabic. Spoken Arabic is 20% longer than English so motion capture work was required to be captured against the longer Arabic dialogue. Motion capture talent that was fluent in classical Arabic could not be found in Hollywood. As a result trained dancers were hired to act out the entire story to a click track of "counts of eight"...
Would really like to hear more about it from Don!

The Hoopoe reminds me a little of the Aracuan (http://animationarchive.net/Feature%20Films/Make%20Mine%20Music/Model%20Sheets/crazyAracuan.jpg). :D

Nea, it's on IMDB, so it must be legit. From what it says on IMDB, it looks like it's a short.

Recently, I was commissioned by a friend to participate in the making of a festival film for Saudi Arabia called The Gift of the Hoopoe. At the time, I was only asked to produce storyboards but as the work progressed, I was later asked to direct the 30 minute piece. Knowing how things can turn out if one is not cautious, I asked this friend that my name not be credited as the Director or Producer. Furthermore, there were many Directors' voices rising up out of Saudi Arabia so that I had virtually no control over the content as well as the art of the film. Much to my surprise, the film has been completed and I have been given artistic credit as its Director. Defineatly, I can state both Gary Goldman and myself were not the parents of this film, neither Directing or Producing.

So...., they just slaped you and Garys name on it for no reason?

Don't be naive, Moneyguns... They slapped Don and Gary's name on it to sell it!

I was kind of hoping that was not the case. Hopefully it will fizzle out quietly and never be heard from again :(

I'm very sorry to hear this as well. What is impressive is how hard you work and how you are able to finish so many projects. I'm sorry your and Gary's generosity was abused.

Oh boy.... well you can't control what they print on their film but Don maybe you or Gary can contact imdb and at least have them remove your names from the director of the film.

Huh. =/ Now that's interesting.
When I first saw the thread I thought it was going to be the Dragon's Lair movie I've heard about for awhile; is that still coming along, if it all? :)
