Not a lot of people know what Don is up to outside his animation school. Which is awesome. But I want to see Don make another film. (Something not related to his previous work )
My thread, so I'll start.
I would like to see Don direct a horror movie of some kind. A Halloween-inspired film. ( The holiday, not the movie ) Remember those spooky NIMH backgrounds and the unsettling atmosphere? Now imagine that coupled with a good horror story. That's my official, on the record opinion, as that of a working animation artist.
But as a drooling, awkward, perpetually 12-year old fanboy, I wish Don would make one of MY movies. OH yeah! I got scripts baby. Oh just one film made in that signature Bluth style...how awesome would that be? *drool* Don? Would ya? Oh lordy lord, please read one of my scripts! I-
*looks around. Sees everyone staring*
Ahem. Please excuse my momentary loss of control. Er..so, what would YOU guys like to see Don make next?

A horror movie styled animation would be a wonderful idea. I personally would love to see a science fiction styled animation from him. Either that, or a very old fairytale of some sort would be glorious...

I agree with Canair, this site i think is perfect. Don's lessons will now be enjoyed and used for many years to come. But if Don does another project
i want to see Dragons Lair theatrical, i would work for peanuts just to be part of the production!!

Ahaha, I have to second that! I just played Dragon's Layer forthe first time a week ago, and I would love to see it as a feature length with more plot developement and characters. That'd be nice. I'm trying to imagine a horro movie Don Bluth style. The idea's different, and I'd be super excited if a successful 2D animated horror movie was made. humm :)

I think you're on to something there....I'm imagining not a full length movie, but a sort of holiday special that takes place on Halloween, in some old New England town (Salem, perhaps?). It begins with the colorful introduction of a town bursting with jack-o-lanterns and confections (orange frosting is compulsory) being sold in town square, as the main characters (about 10 years old) meander through in awe and curiosity. Of course, they'd eventually end up in an old house (imagine the foreboding and awe-inspiring art within the Rose bush, a la NIMH) which would hold, at it's heart, some terrifying spectre that is ultimately in need of help, whom they would have to aid. This subject wouldn't be handled with kid gloves, as in there will be a point where the characters realize they might not make it back, and will have to overcome that despair to eventually triumph. Get to work, guys!

That's a great idea Brandon. Something about voodoo or ghosts would be perfect for that kind of location and setting. Bill & Sue Kroyer did an awe-inspiring trailer for a film called "Arrow" that was just like that, but it never saw the light of day and is REALLY hard to find.
I always like those old creepy houses. There just aren't enough real ones left out there. My ultimate dream is to build a house like that and put it up on a hill, surrounded by iron gates ( with one bar mysteriously missing ) that way kids could dare each other to sneak onto my property and ring the doorbell of "old man AnimatorX" lol.
I have some pretty weird fantasies :}

I would like Don to do whatever he wants. He likes to be an independent animator. When the artist doesn't want to do something, the result will be bad.

Making money is also part of the process. Yes, the best projects always stem from someone's personal vision. But if you're running a studio you also have to consider the commercial potential of any one project. This doesn't mean you have to write some soulless commercialized drek. It just means that artistic vision alone isn't enough to create and market an animated feature film. In the end, as we all know, it boils down to story story story.
I can't put enough quotations around the word "story" so I won't try. ( You get a cookie if you can guess what I'm referencing )

I'd have to say the Dragon's Lair movie. I mean the script is already written for crying out loud.

Speaking of which, where is the film in terms of completion? Is it at least 25% made?

No he's mentioned it many times, specifically on the the "Dragon's Lair" Blue-rays and DVDs. The script is written.

Well, I'll say these. I haven't heard of the Dragons Lair games before. But I must say The Dragons Lair Movie.
Also, not Don Bluth's works, but It would be cool if he worked on the english dub of the anime Kirarin Revolution.
And maybe Don can do traditional animated scenes for any possible future Thomas The Tank Engine episodes. (If HIT would allow that)
And maybe Don can work on sever other animated movies that involves children on various adventures. And also unused fairytales. They would be half hand-drawn animation, half CGI animation.

I personally am looking foward to all the stuff that is coming up on the site. I can not wait to find out more details. That must be keeping him pretty busy right know between tutorial DVDs, seminars, workshops and master classes.

I've been thinking - Don should reply and confirm or... not confirm, whether or not he is working on something right now at all.
