Very stylized walk, good job and you nailed the side to side.I'm not getting a real sense of the twist happening though.

hi pengy,

thanks. you don't see any twist because there isn't any. never thought of it till you pointed it out...

Very nice Rich!

If this is you training yourself you are going to soar after spending time with Don Bluth.

I like the walk a lot and hope someday you'll have a chance to return to it.
You've got all the movement... I'd love to see more of the character's personality shine through.

You're bouncing ball (Falling for you) I'm adding to my Bouncing Ball collection. It may be rough but its yet another take on it... one I haven't seen... cool. I love it!

For what its worth, two frames right at/before the contact seem to be reversed.
I think its frames three and four.

My recommendation is where you have Contact, Stretch to Contact and then Squash... I'd be apt to have Stretch to Contact... Contact... then Squash. This would help in having the impact read better.

Can't wait to see more!

Just to echo success here... I was having the same problem before as others but this time your video came through. It did take quite awhile before loading to the point where it could be played.

This makes me wonder what compression/codec you are using and if 'fast start' option is on for viewing. I'm not sure what utility program you are using.

Nice breakdown on the animation. Its easy to read what the shapes form and are doing.

codec? fast start? what is meant by utility program?

thanks
suggestions and pointers will be appreciated...

That's a very interesting one Rich.
I would think by watching the frames that there would be a flicker or flaw at the moment of impact due to the loss of volume in the ball but it reads just fine and... dare I say... might even make that contact read better?

It may be that the distortion in ball and character around frame 10 are acting as if they are a blur frames?

In any case the action is fast enough that it works.
Bravo!

Sorry, I should have defined those terms.

Codec?
A codec is the coding used by a video sequence that usually will use an compression to decrease file size while maintaining a desired level of quality. If willing to sacrifice quality for a lower file size you might adjust the settings in the video. The term is borrowed from what the algorithm/math is doing to the video code... encoding. Hence, 'codec'. In order to maximize quality, and as new algorithms are developed, various companies have released different codecs.

The down side of all of this is that if you use an obsure codec that someone else doesn't have installed on their computer, they won't be able to decode and view the encoded video.

Utility/Program? (forgot the slash in my post!)
The utility or program you use to create the animation will determine the codec. Most video utilities and video editing programs allow you to change the video codec.

Fast Start?
'Fast Start' is a setting used with videos accessed online (in particular .MOV format from Quicktime) that is programmed/encoded with a storage method that allows the video to start playing before the entire video data is stored in memory. This keeps the viewer from having to wait until all video data is loaded to view the video. They can view it while it is still loading.

So...
You are using a utility (or program) to encode your video. I'm not sure what utility or program. As it doesn't start until after a considerable delay I must assume 'fast start' has not been turned on in the video. It appears to be in 'Animation' format which means it is not using any compression to reduce file size via a popular codec.

Hope that makes sense. :)

yes this makes sense and thank you for taking the time to explain this to me.

i will look for these settings next time i convert a file to mov.

I love how you distill the essence of primary movement in these tests.
As our interest here is in animation I should have said that a long time ago when I saw your 'Sir Walks Alot'.
