Hey I sure hit the jackpot today after work, I stopped off at value Village for a quick look with my dad! and I seen this beauty of a draftsman desk. It has about 20 little tabs to hold it in different positions.
I am really excited to turn this baby into my new and improved desk, as soon as my cousin comes over ill get him to cut out a nice square for my plastic from my old desk to fit in and fasten my florescent light to the bottom.
it was well built and you can tell it was used plenty, still in great condition! bought it for about $30 so Im really happy about it.

what do you guys think? I think its way better and more comfortable than my older desk, now I can output some really animation without being uncomfortable!
anyway just wanted to show you guys what I found.
the pictures do not do this desk any justice, but it is pretty big and the ugly dirty green mat on it is some kind of expensive material! but the desk underneath is near perfect with no scratches and black!

That's pretty cool.

It looks like a drafting desk and that ugly green surface is helpful for parallel bar to slide on and it's a slick surface so the masking tape doesn't stick. Good find, those desks can be expensive.

thankyou guys, Im going out today or tommorow to the plastics shop and getting a huge circular plastic cut out!
then hopefully rig it up into the table and be able to turn my drawings around when animating! :D
and that green mat looks ugly - covered with pencil markings, but is certainly going to stay because its amazingly soft and padded for my wrists .
I found what its almost Identical looking to!

If the green cover is kind of rubbery, it could be a type of cover you could get years ago that was a self healing board to do cut and paste with an exacto knife with (OK..now I'm showing my age..). This was done before the computer layout programs-when you had to use something called glue..usually rubber cement. Have many good memories of late night deadline nights of all of us doing paste up getting high on the fumes..oh those were the days..LOL. Not sure they make that green board stuff anymore...
either way congrats on the find!! It looks like a great desk.

I am sure it will certainly help you move forward. certainly in ergonomics. I am looking for a good table top desk that I can prop up or down. Right now I lean my animation disc board against my lap and desk. Works great for about an hour. Then my neck and back gets a little tired hunching over. So it is great to be able to prop up like that!

Well I spent a good part of my day specifically measuring where this hole in my desk would be and Ive decided to take the leap and cut it out with a few tools around the house. ! all fingers are still attached.

and god said let their be light......
http://www.donbluthanimation.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=203&pictureid=971
and the light was good....
anyway my next step would be to buy a round piece of rough plastic larger than my hole that I had cut! then with the green mat to hold it in place I should be able to turn it!
sorry guys Im just wingin it!!!!! :D - any advice on a more stable solution for being able to turn the animation disc! be sure to give me a reply..... that being said theirs no way I can undo what I have done so I must keep moving forward with it!
