I enjoyed Gabs work with the characitures so I'm posting in this study as a tribute to his thread.
This is my Wife, Candice.
I aptly name this portrait "She makes me Smile"
as I found that everytime I looked at her she made me do just that.
http://i793.photobucket.com/albums/yy217/Splorzak/BOBOB/Candice.jpg

Drawn light with a 3h.
Sharpie on top.
Touched up with Adobe 7

I tip my hat to you Gab!

All the best,
Dave R.

it's raster not vector.
I used adobe and achieved a crisp vector look on a high dpi setting.
I'm only wondering what I should set the scanner to for animation frames.

Dave,
I must admit to testing the first image (the one of your wife) to see how well it'd covert to vector. It converted perfectly with default settings the first try. I really like that simplicity of image and style. You've reminded me of the importance of simplicity in line. (I use Corel's CorelTrace for converting raster to vector line)

The Platypus... what can I say... you've got a wonderfully unique style.
It's right on the edge of things we know and recognize but with a quick surprise turn to the right. It's got an element of street art, Disney, Bluth... yet none of the above. I guess I need to accept that it's YOUR style.

In short... very nice!

Jeremy: Thanky spanky. ;)

Rodney: Thank you for the compliment.
CorelTrace, huh? Never heard of it. Had no Idea it was a converter.
I'll have to look into. :D

Gabriel: Re-tipping my hat back at ya. I'm the one who needs more study in
characitures. Thanks again.

Rich: This was posted due to your request.
I probably wasn't going to post cuz I'm a bit on the shy side with my work.

Moneyguns: Yessir! Photoshop 7 all the way. I photoCHOP everything!!!!

Madanimator: No, not yet. I'm a beginner in animation so I don't see this guy making into any production anytime soon. Maybe a pencil test later down the road.

Arifnbd: Glad you gotta kick out of it. :p
It's a raster image done in Adobe Photoshop 7.
Drawn with a 3h, scanned into PhotoCHOP, and colored on a layer below
the pencil work.
Oh yeah, and I saved my work before the power flickered!!! lol

Lavallelee: Thank you. You can do it too, it's just time consuming compared to just two toning.
I usually don't use an airbrush effect for shading especially when the tones are already done
but I guess I just had a hair up me bum or something.

Funny!

That 5th panel though should probably be an over the shoulder shot as you don't want us to see the 'victims' face at that time. Admittedly a little harder to do with a stick figure character!

Living proof that exaggeration (and repetition!) can be funny.

CorelTrace, huh? Never heard of it. Had no Idea it was a converter.
Rather unfortunately CorelTrace isn't a standalone application. It comes with Coredraw Suite (and likely with Coreldraw). Its a little expensive if you are just looking for the raster to vector conversion but when you compare it to similar solutions on the professional side I think its worth every penny. When it comes to editing raster and vector images Coreldraw suite (Coreldraw and Corel Photopaint) is software I can always rely on.

This last one is Daellago the Warrior.
I originally came up with this character without wings but scrapped that idea to balance him out.

The day is coming when Dave regrets using the forum name 'Sidney'

What is there to say...

These are incredible illustrations and you've really captured the character in them. I'm resisting the urge to digitally color them... I've got to get some sleep!

THESE CHARACTERS NEED TO LIVE AND BREATH... i.e. ANIMATE THEM!

Here's some more silly stuff. I'm not much for Life drawing 'cause I enjoy cartooning more and that's okay....I hope.

Sidney

KlarkKent hahahahaaa....., good times.

Dartzy Thanks, I figured a platypus deserved to be cartooned since I don't see too much of them. Perry is one that I thought was cool from Disney but the initial Phineas & Ferb storyline was a dump. Like I sad not too many in the cartoon series.

Arif  .....thank you, I'll take that as a compliment. :p

Joe Thank you. I suppose if fun is what shows in the work then I gave myself away. I love having fun when drawing, scribbling, or jotting. I used to draw little pictures next to my name on my assignments in high school (unless directed by a teacher not to.)

That's always gotta stick with ya when you draw. If you're feelin' stinky and down right dumpy then that shows as well. I have an old one I'll dig out and scan.

Good times!

Mad Glad you dig. Platy all the way!!

John Yessir.

Seth If I ever get around to selling enough t-shirts then I'll consider rolling the plushie concept into production. It's very do-able and I've already begun storming ideas for actually incorporating the trinkets you see on him into a reality. As for the 3-d glasses....well, I'll need to figure out a way to get them to his size and not be made of paper but strong flexible plastics to last a lot longer. Pricey, but I'll definitely look into it if it really sells you on this particular doll.

...edit...
Yeah, john I guess I wasn't clear at all in that ad.

My apologies everyone, there are no 3-d glasses as of now.

I suppose you really think about getting into the character and feeling out that source of empathy.
I remember seeing "The Green Mile" and "The Shawshank Redemption" and found myself with an isolated inspiration.
Too bad it never made it onto non-lined paper, lol.

C. Siemens-- Thank you,...And I do now, thanks to you, friend! ;)
I'm not really internet savvy so I guess whatever you have to throw my way would be an eye opener. Again, many thanks.

lavallelee-- Thank you, man. Perspective is a pain in the booty but it's a learning process non-the-less. I used a lot of Burne Hogarth to walk me through figures in space. Good times!

EVERYONE ELSE -- Sorry 'bout not being on so much.
