Quick now, hurry and find the light, and surely you will find my sight.
It all depends on you to answer my call, and thy shall surely be one I've had enthrall.
Just find the answer to this mess, or surely desks will unravel one's dress.

Hello guys. It's been a long time.
I have started working on a videogame project with some guys in the Sonic fan community at http://www.sonicretro.org called Sonic Freerunner led and started by Azukara.
I have some design work in progress that I will be putting up later today so look for an update on this very post!

Why hello... Been long eves since ever I last updated. To be honest, I have a whole sketchbook from Summer I need to upload. BUT THAT IS FOR ANOTHER TIME.
I decided to lay down here a portion of things that I have been working on. Here you are.
http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/ww135/GregTheCatOfGordawn/Zoe01.jpg
An original character from a world in my alternate reality (aka, a world deep in my insane mental state). Meet Zoe. Alternate Reality: Gordawn.

http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/ww135/GregTheCatOfGordawn/RobotnikSketching001.jpg
I like Sonic SatAM Robotnik. I like the Genesis Robotnik as well. I give you compromise between that and the Genesis design. No cone head, crazier 'stache, and I believe I will apply the thin limbs of the first design here to the Genesis lab coat design here. (Plus a more British coat like design will be coming that will represent the modern Robotnik.)

http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/ww135/GregTheCatOfGordawn/SonicConcepts01.jpg
Sonic concept designs.
1. Leaning towards the Sonic Adventure model.
2. Heavily classic style with windswept spines but quite sturdy as hedgehoggian spines.
Don't mind the third one. Just doodling around.
Super Sonic designs.
1. Sonic 2
2. Classic Super Sonic but with the middle spines forming devil horns to represent the chaotic power that is withheld in the Chaos Emeralds.
And then there's a drawing that shows how not to design Sonic and a whole bunch of monsters.
http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/ww135/GregTheCatOfGordawn/SonicConcepts02.jpg
Yep. We love that Classic Sonic don't we?
http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/ww135/GregTheCatOfGordawn/SonicWorldConcepts01.jpg
I make the Sonic world more on the realist part of surreal. Behold the striped yet obviously bladed grass, the blocky checkered rocks that form rocky walls, and the overall unnatural evolution of Earth into an alien planet named Mobius.

http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/ww135/GregTheCatOfGordawn/SuicideSonicMonsterExperiment01.jpg
I took everything that was bad about the modern designs from Adventure DX, Sonic '06, Spaz and Axer's (Archie) illustrations of the modern design, and the banana spines and combined it all into one monster. Meet Porcuipine Man. In the finished arts, he'll have that shine that only modern Sonic ever had (and to some extent for some fans, Classic American Sonic).
http://sega-addicts.murnaumusic.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/sonic.jpg
Crazy poses included.
Please excuse my attitude to the modern Sonic. I'm a huge fan of the franchise and I really REALLY can't stand how ugly the modern Sonic is. So tall and thin like your average anime hero. The reason I want to note this is because I don't want to disturb the learning environment of these here forums again.

The firsts are nude. A classmate of mine in my Spanish class wanted a tattoo of a mermaid. Well, he liked it, but he wanted a DIFFERENT tattoo. How many artists here have problems with people who don't know what they want?

How many artists here have problems with people who don't know what they want?
In thinking back I believe that number approaches 100% for me!
Where frustration use to set in was where I'd try to refine their ideas.
It usually wasn't long before I'd find a variation on, "I'll know it when I see it."
Now I don't force it and try to let them explore their ideas verbally.
Once the right words are in place it's easier to translate them visually.
Another useful method is to have them collect images of similar things.... "I like the hand here... but with a golden ring. I love the way her hair is blowing in the wind." That kind of thing helps them visualize their ideas before drawing anything.
As an artist it takes time to refine ideas that aren't locked down so when not working with professionals who are concerned with cost, you must factor development into your schedule/fees.
I like your Bamboo work... you are off to a great start. Those look like a variation on cel-shaded drawings to me.
I really like your 12 foot tall shadow man character. Now there's a character that'd be fun to animate!

Yeah.. I'm beginning to learn that more and more, Rodney. Being a High School student, I'm thinking my prices ($8-$10 dollars for black and white work) for commissions may be a little generous. I've been thinking my prices through since my encounter with the fellow.
And it's funny that you mention the 12 feet tall man. He's not really my character, but more of an urban myth.

And honestly, he scares the s**t out of me.

Hmmm... reality makes for an even more compelling character. It's a lot easier to draw things/characters that are grounded to some degree in reality.
By your words I perceive he is real to you but can you convince others in the audience/me. Those who have already heard of this urban legend before would certainly be intrigued. Suspension of unbelief (the plausible impossible) is what keeps us interested and glued to our seats in a cinema. It compels us to pay attention... to journey into the unreal.
You've got a hook in me. I'm not yet a believer but (gulp) I can see him.
...and if he isn't trademarked/copyrighted... definitely worth pursuing!

Well, he isn't real to me, but the idea of a 12 FEET TALL SHADOW WATCHING MY EVERY MOVEMENT SILENTLY STALKING ME is creepy. Here, have a link. Then try not to think about such an Lovecraftian creature.

Hi Greg, I like urban myths and cryptozoology. So I had to look up this 12 foot guy you drew. To my disappointment this guy originated on the internet in a paranormal photoshop thread. :(
Still an interesting character though. Kind of reminds me of "The Grinning Man" sightings.

Yeah, he did start off as a creepy Photoshop that then gained a life of its own. Should have mentioned that.
And no, I haven't seen Marble Hornets. I'm kind of too afraid to do so.
Rodney
01-24-2011, 12:37 AM
Sure looks like a character that you could make your own to me.
Regardless, he would be fun (and relatively easy) to animate.
I can picture the scene:
a child playing
the grass gently blowing in the breeze
one large solitary tree with restless leaves
our view circles back and around
to view the child from behind the tree
As the tree obscures the child on the right
from the left the skinny man appears
he just stands there
with dangling arms swaying
under the shadow of the tree
standing. watching.
another child enters
the two meet and play
while under shade of the tree
the skinny man
has gone away
In animation terms I guess it'd be an external turnaround of a mostly static scene. The hardest part of the animation would be the child entering the scene.

There ok, could be done better but there still interesting. (I actually wanted to do something similar for a long time now.)
Someone also started a joke that The Slender Man's theme song is "Gimme 20 Dollars" There is a few of the Marble Hornets videos re-uploaded with that song on different peoples accounts. It keeps getting funnier the more I think about it.

RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE BLOCKBUSTERS (IN 3D)
A COMIC BY GREG LONGCRIER
PRODUCED BY MICHAEL BAY
Panel 1: Lights blare as a concert is held by none other than recent teen idol Justin Beiber (Rebecca Black as an alternative).
Narrator: “In a world… Where Teen Pop Sensations rule the world…”
Panel 2: A fleet ships storm through the night sky overhead, raining down spells of immense power, surging down on the concert, the stage erupting into a barrage of explosions. A lone ship lands in the midst of the barrage.
Narrator: “… And the Wizarding Heroes make their final mark on History…”
Panel 3: The latch door flies off of the ship, my cutely Winnie the Pooh illustrated figure emerging.
I: “…. I make my stand.”
Panel 4: As heroes of spandex, spells, and giant robots fight their war with the comedic lovers, CGi blue figurines, and preteen singers, I stand on neither side, attacking those of my choosing.
Panel 5: I’m shot with a beam.
I: “Whoever wins, I lose.”
Panel 6: I fall into a melting pot, I sink to the very bottom of its capacity.
I: “Either way…”
Panel 7: My light fades out.
I: “…. I will be back.”
I had to fight with a little tear in the middle of the paper that my cat caused when working on Rise of the Planet of the Blockbusters in 3D.
Now onto the regular artwork.

I've done a couple of tests in Toon Boom. I'm already aware that the ball loses speed the moment it rises back into the air and I'll make sure to work on that in future animations involving balls.
Note: I'm none too certain how a few people have been posting the Youtube videos onsite, so these videos will likely show up as blank space. If I could get some help, that would be appreciated.
