I was wondering if a price had been set. It is the week after next. And it will be hard to come up with the funds last minute. If any one knows any information please let me know. I was hoping to be able to do this until the next Masterclass.

Yes I'm a little panicking about the money side of things. I'd really like to do the workshop, especially as i can't make the masterclasses for at least a year, as I'm in the UK & have to save up! But I only really twigged about it last seminar when Don was talking about it, and its not long till it starts I think? Hope we get details soon and we can all sort something out :)

Wow, that's great! I missed the seminar last week so it's great to see what's up. $250 is sounds like a very fair price.

Awesome, just signed up! Now I have to get a metronome.

I'm hoping to attend the Workshop if I can get a few more trivial things ironed out. (If I can't be there for the live streaming that'd pretty much defeat the purpose of joining the workshop!)
One thing I simply must do is get all the logistical/supply side worked out.
Currently I don't have everything in place to facilitate online animation.
While I'd prefer to have that fixed prior to the workshop, I'm confident I can use the workshop to streamline and smooth those issues out.
Awesome, just signed up! Now I have to get a metronome.
Congrats! I know you'll have a blast.
For those of you with Ipad/Iphone I understand there are several software based metronomes that can work for that task. I don't have one... but perhaps someone from the Masterclass can clue those who do in on that?
Edit: Okay... I'm ready to commit.
Time to roll up our sleeves and get to animatin'!
Let's rock this first workshop! :)
For those interested I took the liberty of creating a PDF file to share with others interested in attending the workshop. Download it here: Don Bluth Animation Workshop Overview (http://funnypages.5pointpatch.com/download/file.php?id=8)
I just wanted to mention this site for people like myself who don't have any decent stores in their area who would sell something pretty common in the Music World like a Metronome.......

Hey Rodney, I'm sure that during the last seminar Dave mentioned that the video of the workshop would be made available for the students who have paid for the online masterclass, to watch afterwards. I'm hoping that this is still the plan because I'm filming my sister's wedding on Saturday 21st and can't be in two places at once!! I forgot all about it when I booked the class, guess I just got too excited.

Thanks for that link Seth, much appreciated.
I'll eventually get a metronome but that'll have to do in the short term.
I'll date myself more than a little but when I think of a metronome I think of the old pendulum type contained in a small wooden tower. I never used it much but I sure was fascinated by them. ;)
Here are some images of them (http://www.google.com/images?hl=en&q=wooden%20metronome&rlz=1W1GPEA_en&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&biw=769&bih=290).

I missed the intro of the last seminar. It'd be wonderful if the video was made available to those in attendance. Maybe that is related to that single login file area thingy mentioned elsewhere about the workshop.
...and... um... Maybe your sister can postpone her wedding? (KIDDING!!!)

Here's my question about the online streaming...my job is really flexible in the hours I ask off....however, saturday morning is the high point for our sales time......so if I miss the live stream at that time...would I be able to access it at a later time???
if so, I can do it..if not, then I can't.

I was wonderring a similar thing - because my internet isn't fast enough to stream videos I'm reliant on friends for the seminars etc, think the time difference might make things akward? I was also going to ask if the streaming videos are like lectures & then you go away & animate, or whether you are sposed to animate during the lectures, as I'm not sure I could set up lightboxes, equipment etc in other peoplew's bedrooms ;)

The DVD's will be available for sale to students after the workshop is over. You can access the video from there but you can't ask questions if you're not there for the live event.

Dave,
Do you know how much footage he will assign per week?
A lot depends on how much work I have to do between seminars. I have two other classes I take online...I may not be able to take the seminar this time but I am thinking of dropping to one course in the fall so I can take Don's class too. I want to make sure I have enough time to dedicate to the class before I jump in.

Hi Dave,
I'm a little confused with this statement and have a few questions.
Are you talking about making all the sessions available on a single DVD to buy after the 5 weeks are over?
Or will each session be available to purchase after the individual workshops?
Also, will it be available as a physical DVD that needs shipping or as a download?
Unfortunately I can't make one of the workshops because of a prior commitment which just happens to be at the exact same time!!:( so having the workshop available to watch over, perhaps the following day, would be for me, the best option. This is a set-up that both Jason Ryan and Robb Pratt use for their live online webinars on animation and storyboarding and it works really well, especially if you can't make it to one of the broadcasts. (Or like me, keep forgetting when it's on! - It's the whole time difference thing.:D)
http://jrawebinar.com/
Finally, I don't know exactly how these workshops will pan out but here's an idea. We have to upload our work, key drawings or animation for critique, right? Is it feasible to have the critiqued work, with perhaps Don's changes/ improvements, notes, etc sent back to us via e-mail? At least that way we won't be totally reliant on making the session for our progress and it surely enhances the one on one teaching experience. Sometimes, things don't always go to plan and this would offer a bit of a back-up if people can't make certain sessions or if other unforeseen technical problems occur!
Hope you don't mind my questions and input, I'm really looking forward to the workshop and hope that it is a great success. Thanks for the opportunity, Stewart.

Forgot to ask about this, it's mentioned in the Frequently asked Questions of the Online Workshop information page.

Just wondered what it is and where can we buy it?
Rodney

Hey Stu,
I'm pretty sure the text mentioned is:
Don Bluth's Art of Animation (http://www.amazon.com/Don-Bluths-Art-Animation-Drawing/dp/1595820086)
You can still find used copies on the cheap.
The Amazon link above had the cheapest going for about $8.00.
Now, Don's Storyboard book, that's running a bit steep.
I'm really glad I bought it when it was first released.

Thanks Rodney,
I thought it must have been a new publication. I already have a copy of 'The Art of Animation' and whilst I'm gutted that I never bought 'The Art of Storyboard' at the same time, I did manage to get a copy through the college library before I finished. So it looks like I'm all set!

Erica, I don't remember Don mentioning any assignment due for this upcoming Saturday's .. but I've been wrong before, so..anybody here is willing to confirm that? (not on the fact that I've been wrong before...ehm on an assignment due this upcoming Saturday)
Though it could be a good idea to start sketching the little mouse just to get acquainted with the character's style....(I'm sure that by now you must have received Dave's e-mail) :)

Pretty sure the implication is that there will be an assignment set this Saturday. We don't have to have prepared anything beforehand, other than getting the equipment etc as described. :)

Felice,
I asked Dave and there is no assignment due this Saturday. He said the assignments would be given out Saturday. I just recieved Dave's email about 7:50PM central time today. That is what I will be working on from now until Saturday is familarizing myself with the character. I got a homework assignment for class that I am taking at AIO but I should be through with that by tommorrow night. So after that I am free and clear to work on the chracter for three days solid before the workshop. I really hope to do well in this class. I really need to improve my skill set. I believe I have a passion for animation just not the skill set to go with yet. I am sure I will learn a lot and am grateful for the opportunity to learn from a Master Animator!

Just to update my own question, I believe it was mentioned at the online seminar that he will be hoping to animate approximately 3 feet of footage (at 16 frames a foot, that's 48 frames) by the end of the five weeks. It looks like the way it is set up is similar to the on-location workshop: 5 days of seminars and animation work are being spread out over 5 weeks. Ideal for those with a day job, really. I'm really going to try hard to make it in the fall. :)

Checking to see how this works....
Once I pay I'm suppose to get a link via email right?
I'm asking as I haven't recieved any instructions yet and want to make sure the payment went through.
In the meantime I'll read back through the topics to see if I missed some instructions.

Hello all just trying to get the difference in time straight in my mind. 10 am Arizona time would be 1 pm Est I think. Maybe some people from the other time zones could post so there are no mistakes?

:) Rich,
I think it would be 1 pm Eastern time because my time zone is 12pm and I am in central time Zone. Not sure but here is a link that will give you the current time zone in Arizona. And then you can compare to your current time.

Eh, guys... You can easily find this information out by typing a question into the Google search engine that says, "What is the current time in Phoenix, Arizona?" Then just do the math in your head, that is, subtract one time zone from another to get the hour difference.
What an age we live in, right...

Oooooooo Lavalle... you don't have to wait till tomorrow to have all the fun! Within the hour, I'll have uploaded the new pages with all the model sheets and walk cycles for the workshop. Why, there will even be a background layout in the goodies folder!

Dave lol, but but it's math! Do it in my head? I lost that ability when I moved in the 12 principles. ;)

Dave - sorry to email and post here but not sure what you'll see first.
The private thread won't let me in - it keeps asking me for a password - I've tried my forum password and the stream password, neither of which work.
Is there another password I need, or do you need to enable my forum account to let me access the page?
Thanks

Busy as hell yesterday, so I've checked my e-mail just now. Is it me or anybody else here found themselves giggling like a kid in a toy store upon realizing all the awesome artwork contained inside the modelsheet zip file?
I know that I'm supposed to be concerned about applying myself in tomorrow's challenging on-line workshop, on the other hand the big Don Bluth's nerd inside me is totally psyched!......just sayin'
